Emilyrose Sheffield earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Appalachian State University before diving into her Master of Kinesiology in Sport Psychology and Motor Behavior at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Passionate about helping others unlock their full potential, she is currently working towards obtaining her CMPC (Certified Mental Performance Consultant) certification through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology.
Driven by a deep desire to empower others, Emilyrose founded Summit View with the goal of guiding individuals to achieve their dreams and reach peak performance. The name “Summit View” is inspired by the quote, “Climb the mountain so you can see the world, not so the world can see you”—a reminder that true motivation for growth comes from within, and the journey is about personal transformation, not external validation.
As consultants, we cannot add value to someone’s life if we don’t first value people. Everyone who comes to us brings their own unique experiences, strengths, and challenges. By fostering a deep respect and understanding for the client’s perspective, we build a foundation of trust and collaboration, enabling us to work together to support their growth and make a meaningful impact on their lives.
Belief emphasizes that meaningful support is about being present and offering help, not merely observing with a critical eye. It’s about showing up with hands ready to help, rather than seeking to judge or analyze. By focusing on compassion and understanding, we can help individuals overcome challenges without the burden of constant criticism.
Creating change is not only possible but is natural, thanks to the brain’s ability to rewire itself through neuroplasticity. This powerful concept shows that with intentional effort, individuals can reshape thought patterns, break old habits, and create lasting transformation. By harnessing neuroplasticity, we can build new mental frameworks that enhance focus, resilience, and performance, empowering clients to unlock their full potential. This belief in the brain’s adaptability is central to how we work with clients, guiding them toward sustained growth and success.
Positive Psychology is an approach that emphasizes building on already established strengths, fostering well-being, and cultivating an optimistic mindset. In mental performance consulting, Positive Psychology frameworks are used to help individuals recognize the factors that contribute to their overall well-being and develop positive interventions that can be applied in a variety of areas (Gordan, 2023). This approach teaches individuals they already have strengths that they can use to facilitate change. By applying these principles, clients learn to foster a focus of positivity, strengthen their mindset, increase gratitude, and unlock their full potential, leading to greater success and fulfillment.
CBT is a therapeutic approach that helps individuals identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors (Beck, 2021). In mental performance consulting, CBT frameworks are used to understand how thoughts, feelings, and actions influence performance (Butt et al., 2023). By recognizing irrational and distorted thinking, clients learn to identify and confront these thoughts with reality-based facts, helping them reframe unhelpful thinking. This process equips clients with practical skills to improve thinking patterns, focus, motivation, and overall performance.
Phenomenology is an approach that focuses on understanding an individual’s unique experiences and perceptions of the world. In mental performance consulting, phenomenological frameworks are used to explore how personal experiences shape thoughts, emotions, and behaviors (Hector et al., 2017). By gaining deeper insight into how clients perceive and interpret situations, this approach helps to uncover underlying patterns and perspectives, enabling individuals to shift their mindset, improve performance, and enhance their overall mental clarity and resilience by starting from a deeper “why.”
